POPculture

While this may be a bit of a stretch for a literacy related video, I think that Aubrey has something very important to say here. He talks about writing from personal experience which I think that sometimes we are afraid to do. We are always told in school to never use the word "I" in a paper unless that paper is a narative. However, in all literacy-related processes I think that it can be beneficial to write from a least bits and pieces of personal experience. For this reason, I respect what Aubrey writes because he writes what he knows. He doesn't draw on others experiences or research that he's done. He communicates what he knows through a literacy-related outlet that he has mastered.

  1. This fits in well with what we discussed in class today and using "level 1" (unique instances) evidence in writing. If you cannot draw on the personal, it is easy to slip into abstract and boring writing. Use "I" when it is relevant. Only avoid it when it does not strengthen what you are writing (for instance in phrases like "I think").

    Good stuff.
